What is Google Adsense?

All of you have heard of Google’s Adsense program ( if you haven’t, where have you been for the last few years?? ) Quite a few of you probably already use it. For those of you who have heard of it, but haven’t yet had the courage to try it out, this post is for you.

What is Google Adsense?

Google Adsense is Google’s contextual ad service. Contextual means that Google reads the page that the ads are supposed to appear on, and decides what the page is about. Then it shows ads based on that - presto, you have relevant ads. After all, it doesn’t do you much good if your page about dogs shows ads about adult films. No one would click on your ads, and you’d never earn a dime. Your ads have to make sense, and they have to offer a benefit to your readers.

Can I use Google Adsense?

That’s a question better left for Google itself. The question you should be asking is should I use Google Adsense. This program isn’t for everyone, and it isn’t for every website. Since this site is about blogging, we’ll assume you have a blog. If your blog is about your cat and all the cute things she does, then Google Adsense probably isn’t for you. On the other hand, if your blog is about digital cameras, or mp3 players, then Adsense might just be a good fit. After all, if people come to your site looking for information on the latest gadget, they may be interested in buying it. And since Adsense reads your page and serves relevant ads, your readers might very well see something that interests them.

How do I get started?

Well first you have to have a fairly established blog. You’ll want to make sure you have some content in place before you begin. After all, without content, what will you be showing ads on? Once that’s all taken care of, you’ll need to apply for entry into the Adsense program.
