Top 9 Wordpress Plugins
My list of essential Wordpress plugins.
- Akismet – absolutely essential to reduce or eliminate spam comments. Since I set up Akismet, I have had no spam comments get through. It’s that good.
- Bunny’s Technorati Tags – Many use Ultimate Tag Warrior to tag their posts, but I find Bunny’s Technorati Tags gets the job done more easily, and with a less confusing configuration.
- Optimal Title – Reconfigures the default title of your post – a more detailed explanation is here.
- Ultimate Google Analytics – Makes adding Google Analytics to your blog a simple, one step process, instead of a chore.
- WP-Cache – This one is included with the standard Wordpress package, yet it warrants inclusion here. It speeds up page loading slightly, but more importantly, it vastly reduces server load. If you’re Dugg or Slashdotted, this plugin may keep your server from crashing.
- WP-Cron – Allows you to set automatic tasks to run at periodic intervals.
- Wordpress Database Backup – works in conjunction with WP-Cron, allowing automatic backups to be emailed to you.
- SpotMilk – doesn’t do anything functional, but sure makes the wordpress admin panel a lot nicer to look at.
- Wordpress Reports – Puts your Google Analytics and Feedburner stats in the admin panel.
These aren’t all the plugins I use; in fact, I have quite a few more. These are what I consider to be the absolute best of the bunch, and the ones I wouldn’t want to run a Wordpress installation without.

[...] I’m a big fan of WP-Cache – in fact, it’s one of my Top 9 Wordpress Plugins. When I first installed it though, not all was well. I’m sure many of you have had the same problem, so I’m going to address it here, and offer the simple solution. [...]

Check out Simpletags: http://www.broobles.com/scripts/simpletags/
At the end of a post, you just put a pair of [tag][/tag] tags (with the brackets, not carrots), and toss the tags you want in between separated by a comma. Like this:
[tags]blogging, ranting, wordpress plugins[/tags]
It’ll show up like “Technorati Tags: whatever” with the necessary links. Excellent stuff.

Zach, thanks for pointing that one out. If you post by email, then Simple Tags looks fantastic. One day I’ll setup the post by email stuff.

Wordpress 2.3.x supports tagging natively, so why would you need an additional tagging plugin? I have most of these (minus the tagging) but I also use CG-Flashytitles for Sifr headlines. For me, it was alot easier than trying to set up Sifr on my own. Just my $.02…

Troy – you’re right. But when I wrote this way back in June of 2006, Wordpress didn’t support tagging natively. Nowadays things are a little easier.

Thanks for informing me about the various ecommerce shopping carts out there. It has been very helpful to my research and here is what,I came up with over the past few days.
There are different types of ecommerce shopping cart available in the market for small as well as large businesses. Whatever business you are running, you must pick a top slot ecommerce shopping cart to boost up your online sale transactions.

When a web designer or developer starts working on a website, he requires complete control over the whole process. So the whole process has to be user friendly. The software must be such that it is able to manage your site completely. The software must not give unnecessary problems to the user.
The software must be designed to be compatible to the changes. The designer must be able to include new innovations to his web pages. The layout design must be compatible to the site and the software must provide for these provisions. There should be a provision for products’ image uploads, change in prices, and inclusion of descriptive texts and many other things.
