Is Blogging Blog Really Dead?
Leroy has officially retired this blog, but recently Garry Conn (Online Marketing) posted a comment that makes some sense. He points out that this blog is worth maintaining due to the good stats and that a post once a month would be enough to keep it alive. This brings up a great question: Is once a month posting enough to keep a blog alive?
A common question in blogging is how often a blogger should be posting. In order to grow the traffic and income potential of a blog, a very general answer to this question is 3-7 times per week or more. Obviously, the more posting on a blog, the more visitors can be expected. But, what if you have an established blog that already has some age and statistics built up?
BloggingBlog has a Page Rank of 4 currently and while the Alexa Rank isn’t all that impressive right now, there are still some good links to this blog according to Technorati. So, what do you think? If any of you loyal readers are still checking back in the hopes that Leroy will start posting here again, let us know in the comments. If Leroy or I will post at least once a month here, is it worth it to you to come back?

I don’t so much “check back” to see if anything’s happening here, but I have kept the blog in my RSS feed, so new posts do get noticed.
From the SEO and visitor number perspective, it would be an interesting case study to identify the impact of regular, but infrequent posting.

I agree. I don’t know if I’ve seen this issue addressed in quite this way before…

I think there’s a misconception about how most people read blogs. I believe very few “check back”, but rather simply maintain subscriptions in their readers. When there’s time to read, they zero in on the latest bold items and start reading. Very few blogs have the stickiness where users specifically check it for updates.
While I think one post per month is too little, I don’t think one a day is necessary. I think one post a week is probably a good minimum.
You could always sell the site.

Hi Marios. That’s a great point. Those infrequent posts will be sticking around in the feed reader and if the titles are catchy enough, readers will check them out. I would agree that one post a week is better than one a month. My next question is whether this will be enough to grow the blog’s readership, traffic and value. Any ideas on this?

I definately think you should continue to maintain it. As long as the posts you make here are of a good quality and as long as people find them useful people will come here to read them…at the very least through search engines

I would argue that you could not keep it alive with one post a month. Maybe once a week, but definitely not once a month.

Good point, Kevin. The only thing is that if the blog isn’t updated regularly, it will begin to lose it’s search engine rankings and over time will show up less and less in search results. A minimal amount of posting could keep that from happening, though.
Bryan, that’s a good idea, too. It seems like the consensus is that posting frequency must be at least once a week to keep visitors coming. We’re slipping on this, Leroy! LOL
Thanks for your comments, guys!

thats a valid point however i still think that a few good quality articles is better than a lot of short postings which havent where very little effort has been put into it.
How much time do you think you have per week to update this blog?

I would put it up for sale, my old blog went for $1000, I don’t see any reason why this one couldnt at least do the same.
