Are personal blogs too personal?
Blogging Pro asks this question, and it begs a closer look. Most blogs are of the personal variety. Most bloggers write about their feelings, experiences, and their life in general. I won’t go into the “but who would want to read that?” tangent right now. The question of the day is “Are personal blogs too Personal? ” I would have to say that yes, personal blogs are often too personal. If you reveal too much personal information in your blog, then you’re setting yourself up for potential problems.
Imagine finding out that you have an unfriendly little stalker because you said something a little too inflammatory on your blog. And, since you’ve described your neighborhood and all the daily happenings in your life, the crazy stalker can figure out where to find you. That picture of yourself didn’t help the situation very much, either.

This is a good point. I agree that many blogs are way too personal and reveal potentially sensitive information. Often younger people (and older ones) don’t realize the possible consequences…

Ray,
Good point about the younger people. I think this can tie into the myspace crowd – mostly young users, revealing too much personal info. It’s a problem, and we need to make sure people are educated. If you know all the risks and want to do it anyway – by all means, have at it. But at least you’re aware.

[...] Leroy Brown at Blogging Blog has a post (that also refers to another post) asking this question about personal blogs. This is, however, a good question to ask about any blog or web page. [...]
